Mark joins the crew Newbiggin Lifeboat Station is pleased to welcome Mark Purvis as the latest member of the lifeboat crew. Mark joins as a prospective crewmember for one year. He will now start training through the RNLI's Competence Based Training Scheme to learn the skills required to man the B Class Atlantic 75 Lifeboat at Newbiggin on service.

Newbiggin Lifeboat DaySunday 1st August 2010Approximatley £3000.00 was raised by Newbiggin Lifeboat Fundraising Team at the annual event.

Funded by the Civil Service Motoring Association to celebrate their 75th anniversary the Atlantic 75 lifeboat arrived at Newbiggin in 1998 to replace the then station lifeboat Atlantic 21 B 554 "Kirklees". At the time it was the latest development of the B class, it has a manually operated self-righting mechanism and is capable of being beached in an emergency without sustaining damage to engines or steering gear. The Atlantic 75 is fitted with satalite navigation, VHF and carrys a comprehensive first aid kit it can be operated safely in daylight in a force 6/7 and at night in a force 5/6
